daeg
Daeg is based on the rune of the same name, which forms
the two triangles across his eyes and nose. Among other things, the rune
symbolises the dawn of a new day and radical transformation. Daeg the
man was conceived by Richard with help from Katz Cowley, during their
time in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. Katz then nurtured the infant Daeg
and transformed him into six figures for Richard's first two collections
of shorts, 'Who's Afraid of Hieronymous Bosch?' and 'The Reluctant Puppeteer'.
Katz subsequently spent 10 years in New Zealand, where she received great success
as an illustrator of best-selling children's books, before moving to Australia in 2011.
